New Results in X-ray Astronomy 2017

Thursday 14th September

Center for Extragalactic Astronomy, Department of Physics, University of Durham

***PROGRAM NOW AVAILABLE*** INCLUDES THE ATHENA MEETING ON FRIDAY 15th***

The long-established series of annual one-day X-ray astronomy meetings in the UK will this year be hosted by the Centre for Extragalactic Astronomy, Department of Physics, University of Durham on Thursday 14th September 2017

The purpose of this 1-day meeting is to showcase new scientific results achieved by the current X-ray missions, as well as to discuss the science that will drive the next generation of instruments. All interested persons are invited to attend. In particular this meeting will provide an opportunity for newer members of the UK high energy astronomical community to present results, and to meet with members of other groups working in this area.

The meeting will start at 11 am (coffee available from 10:30 am) and end at 5:00 pm, immediately followed by a reception. Those wishing to attend should email Chris Done (chris.done _at_ durham.ac.uk, with @ replacing _at_) by 7 September 2017 at the latest so we know numbers for coffee and the reception. Those wanting to give a talk/poster, please also include a title and short abstract.

Durham is easily reached from the East Coast mainline station. If you plan instead to drive then include this in your email so that we can organise a parking permit. The meeting will take place in the new Physics Ogden West building, on the University's main campus, just off South Road. Note that Google Maps does not yet include the new Ogden West building. Click here for an up-to-date campus map (2.1MB PNG). It takes around 25-30 minutes to walk from the station, or 5 minutes in a taxi.

For those wanting to stay overnight, there IS NOW THE POSSIBILITY OF COLLEGE ACCOMODATION IN GREY (very close to physics) for £50 per night B and B. Otherwise there are other local Bed and Breakfast places - we often use a nearby pub, The Victoria Inn or budget friendly hotels like Premier Inn
