We are two PhD students in Astronomy with a passion for baking who wanted to re-establish social interactions in the department after COVID. We founded the bake sale in May 2022, and we have been running it on a monthly basis ever since. We hope that it will continue to bring the community together for much longer.
We donate the proceeds of each bake sale to charities suggested by the members of the department. We aim to keep this activity apolitical whilst supporting diversity, equity, and inclusivity. Our baked goods are inclusive of all dietary requirements and allergies, providing vegan & gluten free options.
The bake sale usually takes place monthly on Mondays at 11am coinciding with the regular morning coffee break. You can find us outside of OCW017 in the Ogden Centre West. We take donations in the form of cash or contactless payments.
Since the founding of Cakes for Good, we have raised over £3000 for 18 different charities. We have had contributions from over 34 volunteers from the department.
