The Balloon Imaging Telescope (BIT) was successfully launched from Timmins, Ontario by Durham and Toronto universities on 18 Sep 2015. Hanging under a 400,000m3 helium balloon, BIT flew above 99% of the Earth's atmosphere. It achieved a pristine view of space, with pointing stability equivalent to the resolution of the Hubble Space Telescope. 12 hours later, BIT landed on the bank of a remote river in northern Quebec, and was recovered with minimal damage. It has now been accepted for a 3 month 'superpressure' flight in 2018.
