Mock galaxy catalogues generated by randomly sampling a statistical descriptor of a given galaxy population can be generated quickly, but they lack spatial information and have a limited number of galaxy properties. Lightcone catalogues are ‘mock’ galaxy surveys produced from numerical dark matter simulations. The simulated merger trees are populated with galaxies via the semi-analytical model GALFORM, which calculates a variety of self-consistent galaxy attributes. The galaxies in the simulated catalogue are then positioned according to where they enter an observer's past light-cone. Only galaxies which satisfy the specific survey requirements such as magnitude, surface brightness, … are included. We will briefly expand on the methodology used to generate these Lightcone catalogues, and the products currently available. We also explore future development options from an end user perspective.
