I am a research scientist at the SETI Institute having recently completed an NPP Fellowship at NASA Ames. In 2025 I will take up an Ernest Rutherford Fellowship at Imperial College London.

PhD positions available to work with me and others at Imperial! Find out how to apply and about funding, scholarships, deadlines, and more here , with two flexible example projects and more information here and here . Please email me if you are interested.

I research how planets, moons, and rings form and evolve. My main focus is the study of impacts, especially giant ones, using high-resolution 3D supercomputer simulations, like the one shown in this cross-section animation, and below from our project videos stored on youtube .

To that end, I also lead the planetary development of our open-source hydrodynamics and gravity code SWIFT . Find out more about my research at our group page or follow the links above.

I am also enthusiastically involved with public outreach and teaching, from talks at astronomical societies and planetarium shows for local schools, to creating demonstrations for national exhibitions.
