Rationale

Aims & Topics

Accreting compact binaries exhibit a rich and surprisingly consistent phenomenology, regardless of whether the accretor is a white dwarf, a neutron star or a black hole. The purpose of this meeting will be to explore and compare the multi-wavelength, multi-facet, time behaviour of these systems in order to shed light on the underlying accretion physics.

The meeting will bring together experts on all types of compact interacting binaries, covering both theory and observations. Particular emphasis will be placed on the remarkable time-domain and multi-wavelength properties of these systems and on the consequences of accretion, such as disc winds, jets, outbursts, and thermonuclear eruptions. The community of worldwide researchers interested in compact binaries will share insights on the several open questions in our understanding of accretion physics as a whole by combining new results from observations and theoretical developments.

The meeting dates are set to 19-23 June 2023. Participants are invited to register and submit abstract contributions at this stage. Program and selected talks and posters will be defined by early April 2023.

Topics for discussion will include:

  • Geometrically thin and thick accretion flows
  • Wind, stream, and disk-fed accretion
  • Disk-jet coupling and outflows
  • Disk outbursts and related state changes
  • Magnetically-driven phenomena in accreting binaries
  • Nova eruptions and Type I X-ray bursts
