How to get to the Science Site from the Bus or Railway Stations (on foot)

Leave the railway station by the southbound side and walk down the road (steep hill). Take the pedestrian footbridge on your left, about half way down the hill. This leads to the roundabout at the top of North Road. Walk down North Road - bus station is immediately on your right. When the main road curves sharply to the left, keep straight on to the pedestrianised Milburngate bridge over the River Wear. Cross the river and walk up Silver Street (steep hill - lots of shops). This leads to the Market Place (church and statue of man on horse!). Keep right into Sadler Street then almost immediately left down Old Elvet (pedestrianised) to Elvet bridge over the Wear. Once over the bridge, turn right at traffic lights into New Elvet, then take Church Street (slight turn to the right). Science site is immediately beyond the New Inn (pub on left) traffic lights. Turn left here into Stockton Road to reach the main entrance to the Science Site (a few hundred yards on the right), or go straight across if you know how to get directly to the ICC. Total time about 25 mins.

The more adventurous might like to try walking along the river bank instead of crossing Milburngate bridge ... see the map of Durham! For the less adventurous the Arriva 56/57 or X12 buses go past the Science site.

Once at the Science Site:

The main entrance to the Science Site is on Stockton Road (B). If you are coming by car, a visitors parking permit must be arranged in advance - please liaise with your contact in the department to arrange this. Note that there is no vehicular access from this side of the Science Site to Physics - you will need to park in the Engineering car park (near (9)), or near Biological Sciences (11), and walk. If coming from town by foot you will probably meet the library (1) first, in which case just walk straight up past Geography (2). The Ogden Centre West (3a) is a separate building to the west of the main Physics building (3). The main entrance is on the north east corner. The CEA is on the middle (first) floor, and can be reached by lift or stairs.
